Get your American history here! I visited the city of Boston, USA from June 21-28 2008 to attend the annual Unix Computers conference for work. Boston was founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England. It was the location of several major events during the American War Of Independence from the British, including the Boston Massacre in 1770, the Boston Tea Party in 1773 and the Battle Of Bunker Hill in 1775. Fortunately the locals did not hold it against me, and I was allowed to go back home again afterwards! There are many historic and interesting sights in Boston, shown in the video. Highlights are: Boston Duck Tour hundreds of happily quacking tourists are ferried daily around the Boston streets and along the Charles River aboard brightly coloured restored World War 2 amphibious DUKW vehicles. I had a go at steering on the river, as can be seen and we didnt sink! USS Constitution built in 1797 with 44 guns, this is the worlds oldest commissioned warship. The ship was christened Old Ironsides during the war of 1812, when she beat 5 British warships as their cannonballs literally bounced off her triple hull. Conscription is now banned, so I was allowed off again. Old State House built in 1713, this is Bostons oldest surviving building. It was the seat of colonial government and the centre of activity for events and patriots that led to the American Revolution, when the Declaration of Independence was read here in 1776.
